Hairstylist Chris McMillan Used Salt Spray on Jennifer Aniston Before Salt Sprays Even Existed

To give Jennifer Aniston's hair a bit of texture before the 2000 Emmy Awards, Living Proof hairstylist (and Jen's mane man) Chris McMillan went to Santa Monica Beach and filled up a spray bottle with ocean water. Chris told Cosmo that he then drove to J. A.'s house to dampen her hair with it—and voilà!

Before he knew it, salt sprays were everywhere and brands still to this day are rounding out their styler lines with them.

For example, L'Oréal Paris's existing EveryStyle collection just launched one...

As did Kérastase...

...And Salma Hayek's beauty line Nuance. 

Another one I specifically love is the O&M Surf Bomb Sea Salt Spray. I swear this stuff is three parts salt, one part water because it emulates beach hair like no other.

We love Chris's au naturel trick to get texturized tresses, though—and it's definitely cheaper than buying a salt spray at the drugstore. Just take your own empty spray bottle to the beach next time and fill 'er up!

We love the trick to the natural of Chris to get textured braids, however - and it is certainly cheaper than buying a saline mist at the pharmacy. Just take your own vaporizer empty at the beach next time and er fill!
