Sunday night Nina Davuluri, Miss New York, was crowned the winner the 2014 Miss America Pageant. She is the first contestant of Indian descent to be crowned Miss America.
When her win was announced, Twitter immediately exploded with hateful tweets, with people calling her Arab.

Most of the time, we are quick to write off the men who do not take for a response as total jerks. Because, duh, it is what they are. However, the researchers believe they have discovered a potential cause of the persistence of some guy.
They could just be really freaking tired.
In the study, researchers from Hendrix College tested the effect of lack of sleep on men and women to see how it affected their breeding patterns. The results showed that when they were well rested, men and women rated the sexual intent of women as lower than that of men. However, after a night of not getting enough place, guys rated female sexual intent and interest as higher, the until they believed that women had a desire for the higher levels than men.
Clearly, this could cause problems in the real world (i.e. your neighborhood bar.)
In light of these findings, researchers concluded that not getting enough sleep could certainly lead men to take some pretty bad decisions they do in general if they were well rested. "Bad decision... may lead to problems such as sexual harassment, pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and relationship conflicts which are all factors that have serious medical, educational and economic consequences for both the individual and society," said the study leader Jennifer Peszka, Ph.d., Associate Professor of psychology.
So, a Word to the wise for guys: make sure that sleep you a little before macking on us at the club. Your reputation thanks will.

So, imagine our dismay when Republican Marsha Blackburn MP made a recent statement saying that women "don't want" equal pay laws. Uh, what?
Blackburn, who notably voted against the 2009 Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act of 2009, said that women want 'recognition' on equal pay.
"I've always said that I would not be given a job because I was a woman, I wanted it because I was the most qualified person for the position," she said. "And ensuring that companies will move forward in the same vein, this is what women want. They do not want the decisions taken in Washington. They want to be able to have power and control and the ability to make those decisions for themselves."
Very well...
Yes, of course, we want the recognition for a job well done and people to hire us because we rock - not because we have vaginas and they feel like they need to hit something of a quota of women. Call us crazy, but having legislation in place to ensure that we have paid the same amount as a man for the same work should not affect these other two things.
Rather than take the 'power' and 'control' away from us (because we clearly do not have it in the first place) a law would protect our rights and we. Because this is the point of the whole of a law. Go, Blackburn. Shouldn't you know who?
